Hydrophobic Machinist I

Carl Zeiss is a biomedical device manufacturer that produces a full line of intraocular lenses (IOLs) and ophthalmic surgical products for cataract and refractive surgery.
Zeiss is looking for detailed oriented Machinists.
Machining personnel are responsible for the machining of all Hydrophobic and/or Multi-focal lenses and documentation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Operate 1PC or 3PC Machining Cell safely and efficiently using the Optoform Lathes and Mills combination efficiently.
Consistently meet quality and daily shift outputs.
Keep the machining cell clean and organized.
Maintain minimum average yield of 90% at Pre-Tumbling.
Complete understanding of all applicable MSOPs, process parameters, quality standards and line clearance requirements.
Maintain proper documentation per GDP filling-out work orders correctly.
Accurately record quality and quantities achieved.
Listen and communicate effectively with the Leads and Supervisors on any workstation issues.
Effectively operate a microscope and comparator.
Understand and read lens drawings, and overlays.
Able to perform in process inspections per assigned quality specifications.
Perform all general lens inspections for quality, surface defects and impurities.
Measure dimensions, diopter, BFL and image quality of IOLs.
Understand Principals of CNC machining.
Control and adjust proper temperature on equipment.
Maintain clean vacuum lines Hands on knowledge of all utility connections (airlines, vacuum tubes, power) Job
Summary:
The Hydrophobic Machining Technician has the responsibility to lead, direct, train and coordinate the team in producing a quality-finished product at the lowest possible cost while ensuring product quality.
The position is required to cover machining personnel for the machining of all Hydrophobic and/or Multi-focal lenses.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEfficiently operate all IOL machining and metrology equipment.
Understand and read lens drawings, overlays and be able to perform all necessary inspections for the manufacturing of IOLs.
Ensure all finished products meet quality standards and specifications.

Provide feedback and solutions on process issues and have a clear understanding of quality issues related to machining.
Must be able to properly adjust machine feeds and speeds.
Train and provide technical support to all levels of Machinists and adjust their practice if needed.
Responsible for performing basic lead functions when lead is absent.
Maintain clean scales, probes and overall machine equipment.

Education Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent.
CNC machining experience, or college courses or technical schooling accreditation in machining is required.
