The Ontario Municipal Utilities Company has an exciting opportunity for a Utilities Services Representative.
The Utilities Service Representative is responsible for performing a variety of utility service duties, including water meter reading via a radio frequency device, responding to requests for and terminations of water service, as well as delivery of delinquent account and shutoff notifications.
This position also collaborates with customers to troubleshoot and resolve issues regarding water meter service and usage and identifies potential water leaks.
The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent oral and written communication skills with a customer service orientation; outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills enabling them to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and members of the public; and strong problem solving and analytical abilities to research and resolve problems and provide customers with recommendations.
Computer proficiency and familiarity with utility billing systems is desirable.
The following procedures will apply:
Separate Promotional and Open (external) Eligibility Lists will be established.
The Promotional Eligibility List will be comprised of current City employees (full or part-time) who meet the minimum qualifications and successfully complete any required selection processes.
The Open Eligibility List will consist of external applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and successfully complete any required selection processes.
The hiring department will consider the Promotional Eligibility List prior to considering candidates on the Open Eligibility List.

The Utilities Department within the Ontario Municipal Utility Company consists of two Divisions; Engineering and Operations.
The Utilities Operations Division's responsibilities include water production, water distribution operation, maintenance and repair, customer service/meter reading, Backflow Prevention and wastewater collection system operation, maintenance, and repair.
These activities play a vital role in ensuring that the water system is operated and maintained to meet our residents and businesses water needs and the sewer collection system is maintained to prevent sewer overflow.
The Municipal Utility Company provides affordable, high-quality drinking water that meets all Federal, State, and local requirements.
The City of Ontario serves more than 13 billion gallons of water annually to the City's 170,000-plus residents and 6,000-plus businesses through the operation and maintenance of 20 active groundwater wells, 572 miles of potable and recycled water pipelines, and 12 water reservoirs that store 75 million gallons of water.
Approximately 80% of Ontario's drinking water comes from local groundwater sources, including groundwater supplied to the City of Ontario from 27 wells and two water treatment plants operated by the Chino Basin Desalter Authority (CDA).
The remaining 20% of Ontario's drinking water is imported surface water supplied through the State Water Project and treated at the Agua de Lejos Treatment Plant before it is delivered to the City for use.
Recycled water is provided for non-potable uses such as outdoor irrigation and some industrial applications.
During the past five years, more than 200 recycled water service connections have been completed, supplying nearly 10% of Ontario's total water demand.

Performs water meter reading service by examining and recording water meter usage levels on assigned routes.
Connects and tags water services for new customers and maintains cooperative customer relations.
Disconnects water services for delinquent accounts, non-sufficient fund (NSF) accounts, nonpayment of required deposits or unauthorized turn-ons and delivers notifications and tags meters accordingly.
Prepares and processes work orders and verifies accuracy of information on water meter installation applications prior to submittal and approval by engineering and/or public works department.
Performs repeat readings of meters for customer verifications, billing verifications or problem accounts.
Investigates complaints or possible water leaks, informs supervisor of findings, and reports and documents any malfunctioning of water meters.
Receives and responds to public counter and telephone inquiries regarding water meter service and usage and researches problems to provide customer with appropriate recommendation.
Assists Collections Department by delivering delinquent and shut-off notifications and coordinates customer service terminations with staff.
Provides cooperative service to customers, public, co-workers, supervisors, management and other departmental representatives, and assists with customer and departmental inquiries as necessary.
Qualification Guidelines Education High school diploma or recognized equivalent.
Experience One or more years of utility service, public works, water maintenance or field operations, and/orcustomer service work.
Licenses Valid California Class 'C' driver's license and an acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment.
Desirable Previous experience operating utility service computer software.
