None Supervisory Responsibilities None Duties and
Responsibilities:
Verifies all specimens that come in are labeled appropriately and that they match the labels on the requisition to ensure that there are no issues with patient identification and reporting.
Introduces and prepares biological specimens to the laboratory to ensure accurate processing.
Opens specimens and pour off into secondary containers to prepare for analysis and testing.
Verifies patient demographic information matches the test requisition form submitted.
Data entry of patient information into the computer system for tracking purposes.
Meets key production metrics and quality measures to ensure timely and accurate results.
Unpacks and routes specimens to their respective staging areas.
Packs and ships specimens to proper testing facilities when required.
Properly prepares and stores excess specimen samples.
Resolves and documents any problem specimens.
Handles and disposes of medical and chemical waste.
Complies with applicable environmental health and safety policies and procedures.
Operates automated instrumentation under supervision if necessary.
Education and
Experience:
High School diploma or GED Previous experience in behavioral healthcare setting with knowledge of patient population served by the facility, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Record maintenance skills.
Comfortable handling human biological specimens including blood, urine and tissue samples.
Strong eye hand coordination in order to accurately identify specimens by touch and sight.
High level of attention to detail with the ability to problem solve.
Strong communication skills; both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
Ability to prepare and print routine correspondence, labels, and/or other basic written material.
Proficient in word processing and/or data entry skills.
Skill in the use of operating basic office equipment.
Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting and standing at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, work in protective equipment, and sit/stand for long periods of time.
